Losing a bet is never fun... or is it?

November 06, 2013

So, I was working out with a long-time friend and gym owner the other day, when the notion of a wager came up.

You know how it is, you're in the middle of a workout - pumped. The right song blasts from the speakers just as you're moments away from knocking off the fastest, heaviest, longest set of reps for that workout.

And you finish!  You did it!

When your training buddy decides to kick things up a notch and says...

"I bet you can't follow this up with a sub-45 minute MURPH."  MURPH is a workout dedicated to Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy that involves the following to be completed in one-hour or less:

  • 1-mile run
  • 100 pull-ups
  • 200 push-ups
  • 300 air squats
  • 1-mile run

"Huh?" I'm still out of breath.  My mind and body pulsing as one.

"You heard me. Complete MURPH in less than 45 minutes and I'll give you a full year membership - free."

Full year membership at his gym was worth about $1,200!  I was listening, but wait - what was the catch?

"Okay... so what do you get if I lose?"

"You donate sandbags to our fundraiser."  He was raising funds to take some gear - that included our sandbags - to a remote community in Central America.  I was going to do that anyway!

Inspired by his generosity and still totally stoked from an amazing workout I quickly added, "Plus - I'll include FREE SHIPPING on every product on the site for the month of November!"

I'd just ended a free shipping promo on PKB Sets, so wasn't planning on any more free shipping promos for a while.  But I also didn't plan on losing this bet :)  Without a weighted vest, my best time on MURPH was under 45 minutes.  I could do it - I had to!

Turned out my legs didn't quite have their usual umpf after that morning's workout.  I fell just short of the 45 minute cut-off!  I finished at 46:35.  My legs now totally wasted, I rolled flat on my back and quietly mumbled to myself, "Free shipping it is."

So there you have it.  I lost but you WON.

Anything on our site, for the rest of the month, includes shipping.  Right on time for the holidays.  Ready for you to share with that special friend, family member, military athlete, outdoor athlete!

Some of you may remember us mentioning a little something about a water bladder coming out.  I'd promised we'd figure it out.  Well, we're now testing a very viable option!  Stay tuned because training with your Portable Kettlebell may soon be getting more accessible than every before!

If you haven't done so already, we highly recommend that you connect with us by “Liking” Kettlebell Sandbags on Facebook.

This will keep you up-to-date with Kettlebell Sandbag news as well as connect you with other PKB users.
