Core strength and stability is about a little more than shredded abs and a nice looking waist line. Although for sure those are nice to have! A strong and stable core is essential for protecting the spine and surrounding musculature from injury.
Practicing static and dynamic movements will help you achieve both goals in spades. Below are some of my favorite ab-toning/ core stabilizing workouts designed to isolate the abs and result in bullet-proof abs!

20 bicycle crunches
20 sit ups
20 Russian twists, each side
20 plank jacks
